Publisher Description:
My book 1-800 Toll Free Jesus....Hold On... Don't Hang Up A Discourse On The Importance Of Prayer, is designed to be everything promised in the title. The book is designed to enrich and deepen readers' prayer lives, which will in turn, deepen their relationships with God. I begin by exploring Jesus' prayer life, presenting it as a model for readers. I consider how and in what circumstances Jesus would pray while examining how He taught people to pray. After an in-depth examination of The Lord's Prayer, I explored the necessary centrality of Christ and His call to prayer. As the book proceeds, I explore the different situations that call for prayer, emphasizing the importance of prayer in both easy and difficult times. This leads into a discussion in which I present the idea of prayer as an art. Prayer can take many forms, I explained (among them silent, mental and Scriptural), but it must become a habit for its effects to begin to take root and be seen. Prayer is much more than hoping, as I articulated in my book; rather it is about knowing the work of God, and trusting His will to continue that work. I urge my readers to persevere and be persistence in their prayers. And yet throughout my book, while advocating for the importance and benefits of prayer, I simultaneously acknowledge the difficulty of making time to pray, and even humbling oneself before God in prayer, I explore numerous things that might hinder prayer, among them laziness, a feeling of self-sufficiency, impatience, busyness, or a predominating concern with worldly wealth and power. This is followed by a chapter that explores the characteristics of true, prayerful worship, and another that looks at prayer's ability to convey the benefits of Christ. As I stated, "repentance applies the redemptive blood". After considering the saving power of Christ on the cross, I argue for the necessity of repentance to gaining the benefits of salvation. It is essential to confess one's sin before God. I explained and to repent of them. This leads to justification, which, in turn, leads to sanctification. Repentance should be both personal and communal. I also consider the different calls of the Christian life, exploring and examining the humble, repentant ways in which Christians are called to live. The book closes with a thought-provoking exploration of a key question of human life -why are some prayers answered while others remain ( or, on the surface, seem to remain) unanswered? Throughout 1-800 Toll Free Jesus.. Hold On.. Don't Give Up A Discourse On The Importance Of Prayer, I raised interesting questions about the nature of faith and God. Readers may find my discussions to Be both incisive and inspiring. In addition, my acknowledgement of the difficulty of prayer may also be a comfort to readers who struggle with this issue. My book may be of particular interest to those seeking to deepen their relationship with God.
