Publisher Description: Britain, the most powerful country in Europe and, at the height of her power, in the entire world, annexed the territories known today as Nigeria and administered it by Lord Lugard, who acknowledged the entity as two separate countries, and ruled them as such, even after he became Governor-General in 1912. A doctrine of Fulani supremacy was advanced by Lugard, who built Fulanis up on pedestals as "born rulers," with the result that military and political powers were ceded to Fulani aristocracy, whereas they were spoon-fed with resources from Yorubaland and Niger Delta. Unfortunately, the Yoruba ruling elites, spoiled with opulent lifestyle, collaborate actively with Fulani aristocracy, and profit from merchandizing the aspirations of Yorubas, with the result that the people are reduced to second-rate citizens, and sometimes shabbily done to death, without regard for age, sex, or status. A watershed has been reached today: it's either that Yoruba continue under oppression, or fight for self-determination and creation of Republic of Oduduwa. Those are the two options and there is no neutral ground. "Which side are you?" is a test question of patriotism. You need an informed decision: and this book is written to help you do that. The change begins with you. |
