Publisher Description:
Bertha Miller was a news correspondent to the Sacramento Bee and the Reno Evening Gazette in the 1950's. Many of her negatives and newspaper articles have been saved and are now found in these books edited by her daughter C. L. Neely. This is the 5th book in a series containing Bertha Miller's work. This is a fascinating look at life a small town, back in the year 1958 when her reporting reached beyond the limits of the city and included the dedication of the first roadside rest area in the state of California at Chilcoot Pass, and the filming of the California Zephyr as it made its appearance in the TV show "Wide Wide World." The other books in this series are 1954, 1955, 1956 and 1957. All the books contain a look at the small town of Portola, CA, and each book contains an index of the people mentioned in the many newspaper articles and photographs by Bertha Miller.
