Publisher Description:
A Decade of Roma Inclusion 2005-2015 is an international initiative focused on the issues of integrating Roma people in nine Central and South-Eastern European countries.Bulgaria is one of the nine countries with predominantly high proportions of Roma population in its territory. The goal of this book is to educate the reader about the situation in Bulgaria, as understanding the challenges of the Roma situation is a vital prerequisite for breaking the vicious circle of poverty and discrimination afflicting the Roma community. We gain an insight into the educational prospects for the Roma minority and suggest that education is the key factor for improving the unenviable position of the Roma minority and integrating them in Bulgarian society. There is a shade of criticism on what has not been done over the last five years and some positive examples of how it functions in practice. The reader can also find references to the Norwegian experience and the way they treat their minorities in a spirit of good will. The book should be very useful to professionals in the field of inclusive education and minority issues or anyone else interested in Roma integration.
