| Publisher Description: This second edition book has been modified in June 2021. The sacred Hindu scriptures are placed into three categories: Shruti, Smriti, and a subsidiary category. Shruti scriptures are the Vedas including the Upanishads; they are explained in another of my books. This book is a review of the Smriti texts and the subsidiary category texts. The main scriptures that come under smriti texts are: The two great epics Rāmāyaṇa and Mahābhārata (Bhagavad-Gītā is a part of Mahābhārata), Purāṇas, and Dharma Shāstras. The subsidiary category includes Darshanas, Tantras, and Shivāgamas. Bhagavad-Gītā, Vishnu Purāṇa, Manu-smriti, Darshanas, and Brahma-sūtras are explained in detail. Other texts, namely, Vedāngas, Yuga, Pralaya, Rāmāyaṇa, Mahābhārata, other Purāṇas, Tantra, and Shivāgamas are briefly explained. |
