Publisher Description: Carvin G. Haggins, born in Philadelphia in 1969, at Temple hospital. At the age of 3, Carvin moved to Savannah Ga. There, Carvin recognized his love for music. Not just music, but the words in the songs. Carvin found himself listening to the local radio station that played the great writings of Smokey Robinson, Kenny Gamble, Lionel Richie, Burt Bacharach, Prince, Rick James, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and Donnie Hathaway; daily. The words expressed thoughts and emotion that seemed unimaginable, but extremely real. Carvin realized at that point, how lives and futures can be built with words. At the age of 12, Carvin's mother gave him an opportunity for his birthday, that would shape his life forever. Carvin's mother asked would he rather have a Honda Scooter or move to back to Philly? Carvin told her "Philly because that's where my destiny is". Fast forward 36 years later, Carvin was blessed to be the author of some of the world's favorite songs, Grammy award-winning, 22 nominations, numerous ASCAP awards and a Life Time Achievement Award. This book is a celebration of black writing. Carvin believes "The WORD gives me life. Words are my life. GOD gives to the giver and the gift is in the giving. So... I give to you my gift. Thank you for listening." |
