Publisher Description: Out of the 25 women mentioned in this book, some of them are still household names - Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Julia Ward Howe, Harriett Beecher Stowe, Sojourner Truth, Harriett Tubman and Carrie Nation all come to mind. The rest are, perhaps, less known today, but were still important to the movement (or movements) that they were associated with at the time. Some people may be surprised that I'm lumping three categories - suffragettes, abolitionists and prohibitionists - together, but in general, the three are interrelated. It would be difficult to even have three discreet sections of this book. Some of the women described herein were involved in all three causes (Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton both hit the tri-fecta). Many more were involved in two. |
