Contributor Bio(s): Sheppard, Kristen: - Kristen Sheppard was born and raised in the beautiful city of Portland, OR. Around the age of five, her talents began to appear in music, textile arts and writing. After high school, she attended the School of Music at University of Oregon in Eugene. She plays several woodwind instruments and has performed mainly in classical, jazz or folk music. In her mid 20's she moved to Houston, TX, also known as Space City or the Bayou City. She considers herself lucky to have met many fascinating people throughout her work experiences, which include the airlines and the needlework industry. She often finds herself in leadership and teacher roles. Throughout her life's journey of creativity she has gained many skills, from custom picture framer to professional needlework finisher. She has fashioned many an item, such as hand-knit socks and customized clothing to design/construction of furniture. The creative process is pure joy for her! She currently shares her imaginative lifestyle with her teenage son, four cats, too many finches, and one bearded dragon lizard, in their home just north of Houston.Stribling Sutherland, Kelly: - Kelly Stribling Sutherland, a graduate of California's Art Center College of Design, works as a freelance Illustrator from her home in Denton, Texas. She credits her love for children's book and her admiration of fine artists such as Chagall, Degas, Monet, Munch and many others, in shaping her style. Kelly remembers drawing on the box lids of her Madame Alexander Doll's as a first surface to explore her creativity. Her first landscape at 4 looked more like a bear and so her love of whimsy began. In Kelly's commercial career, she created two Neiman Marcus Christmas catalog covers and also worked on many campaigns for Nordstroms, Daytons, Marshall Fields, Peir I Imports, the White House, the Naval Academy and many more. Kelly is currently spreading her love for art to her elementary students in Little Elm, Texas, where she has taught for 10 years. She is also the Mom to two wonderful children. Robert and Mandi, who are now off on their own adventures in college and after, as Robert is a new Ensign in the Navy, and Mandi is beginning her Senior year in New York City. Kelly and her husband Brian enjoy taking care of their dog Barkley, cooking, traveling to see their kids and spending time with family. Kelly is excited about discovering the world of children's book illustration with "Handsome's Tale and Pat the Bat."
