Publisher Description:
Crossword Puzzles for Phonics and Fun is designed to be enjoyed by elementary and middle school children of different ages and reading abilities, or by one child, as the reading skills increase. The puzzles are grouped into four sections, with each group becoming increasingly more challenging. To assist reluctant readers, the words are in tables below the puzzles. More proficient readers may choose to cover the word tables, but it's still okay to peek once in awhile Extra blank puzzles make it easier for siblings to share the book. Three sections have six puzzles; one has eight, for a total of 26 puzzles, including a few Find the Word puzzles. More than 50 short poems, nestled in otherwise blank spaces, provide additional enjoyment for children. Simple illustrations enhance the puzzles and poems. Most of the puzzles and poems in this book are either in the 5-book Reading Logically series, or in the supplementary reading and activity books (More Great Beginnings, More New Adventures, More Higher Skills). Because they are originally part of a reading program, the puzzles usually concentrate on a particular skill, such as "o" sounds like a short "u," "OW" Crossword Puzzle, "LE" Crossword, and Homophone Puzzle. For the Texas families, four pages of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for English Language Arts and Reading list the TEKS that are supported by each section of Crossword Puzzles for Phonics and Fun.
