Publisher Description:
An historical novel set in Leicestershire in early twentieth century. It is the second in the series known as, 'Tales from Old Swepi'. 'A House in Rutland', picks up the threads of Ada Elverson's life as she travels to Rutland. Her brother-in-law, William Chamberlain has arranged a position as cook in a place he describes as a house in Rutland. On arrival Ada finds herself in a position of Head Cook in a mansion known as Burley-on-the-Hill and as such, in charge of a team of maid servants. Ada meets Mr Neville, the steward and it is immediately evident he is attracted to her. Ada makes friends with Miss Christina, a fashionable lady's maid who teaches Ada about life and love, not all of which Ada approves.
