Publisher Description: This is the story of my childhood during the mid-1950's in South Carolina. It's the story of new friendships, new adventures, ordinary family life, and my introduction to racial prejudice. All of the people are real, and the stories are as true as I can recall. Since young children tend to exaggerate and embellish stories, to add details, and forget others, I cannot guarantee complete accuracy. Of course, I also had to fill in some of the blanks in my memory, because the events occurred about 60 years before this book was written, and memories fade with the passing of time. This book does, however, accurately depict conditions and attitudes in South Carolina during the 1950's, and all historical references are correct. Included are several photos from the National Archives. A glossary will help the reader with unfamiliar words. Most of the words in the glossary are translated into Spanish. All the definitions and explanations are in English. |
