Publisher Description:
This photography is motivated by my interest in understanding the play between light and shadows. I also believe that the human eye is very limited into what it can see. As such, at the same time, I believe that there is a world of possibilities outside of the ordinary that isn't plainly visible. What does this mean? In the material and visible world, to allow myself to engage these ideas allows me to dwell into the curious and interesting possibility that there are other than normal forms of life that have a consciousness that hide in plain sight. Some of these hiding in the shadows and dark places of the world. I am not saying that the images in this book represent those forms of consciousness or evidence of such. However, by way of this book I am trying to do several things. One, provide encouragement to others so that they too will begin to search and seek for strange and extraordinary phenomena in the everyday world and which may be evidenced through photographic imagery. And second, provide a mental exercise that will stimulate the mind as well as the eye to find form in often shapeless and formless spaces. And one goal of these exercises is to create greater mental and visual acuity. Another goal is to create an enhanced interest in the field of the more than normal, super normal, or paranormal. And also, this type of photography is a type of art form. By way of its formlessness, it is meant to provide insight into the unconscious and images that may exist there thus liberating them to be understood. In the end, there are many questions raised by these exercises which include: When we see, what are we really looking at? Based on our previous understanding of the world, what are we experiencing? And then, the question becomes, what are we perceiving or capable of perceiving based on our ideas and or limited by them? In the end, everything tells a story. As do we. One very important question is what is the story that we are telling ourselves when we look at the world? Hopefully, quasi-abstract images, like the ones in these images, will offer us an opportunity to go within and to find something about ourselves thus far hidden as we reflect upon the amorphous shapes that confront us. And then also, another way of expressing the same idea, is that these images are about going back to nature and allowing us to be in touch with it once more. And ultimately, in the end, they can be printed and hung as decoration. I hope you will find them interesting. I thank you for your interest, Grace Divine
