Publisher Description:

Principles of love and affection are taught in a passionate and clear way to children using animals as examples to show the universal purpose of love and friendship in beautiful clear large photographs of various animals demonstrating the various types of affection. Topics covered include defining exactly what love is, what feelings are, the importance of affection for social animals and ourselves, and how we demonstrate and perceive trust -- an essential part of love. The book covers reciprocation of kindness and understanding the feelings of others among other aspects of the connections between animals and between people. The photographs tell much of the story even for children not yet adept at language, though with the text read silently or out loud, should be helpful and enjoyable to children of all ages. The difficulty level for young reader has been rated for 10-100 years of age. Includes child-appropriate mention of reproduction and breastfeeding.

Contributor Bio(s): Marshall, Scott: - Scott Marshall, author of Love, Explained, which Kirkus Reviews called "A straight-talking and frequently eye-opening discourse on the true nature of love," is a former technical writer who, after retiring, worked four years to research and write his first book about love. This is his second book and his first for children. He grew up in a family with two brothers, and they always had a cat, a dog, and many other kinds of pets-too many to list! His mother was a kindergarten teacher and his father was a scientist. His son is an English teacher.
