Publisher Description: This volume presents in detail the archaeological findings of the Argolid Exploration Project, which from the 1950's has undertaken an investigation of the geological, ecological, demographic and economic history of the southern tip of the Peloponnese from prehistory to the present day. The authors give two principal aims for this volume: to provide the setting in terms of the environment, the archaeology, and the history of the area; and to put forward an interpretation of the long record of human interaction with the environment in this region. Extensive appendices contain a register of 329 sites referred to in the text, the evidence for population, and detailed historical sources for the topography of the area. |
