Who Am I Becoming?

For a Christian, the answer to that question is same as the answer to What is my purpose? Or What's my ultimate goal in life? The answer is:

God's passion is to cultivate the virtues of Jesus in our lives so we become like him. The Bible calls these virtues "fruit." Like the fruit on a tree, the fruit of our life can be seen and tasted by those around us. For people to know who you are and whose you are, they start by tasting the fruit that is evident in your life.

What kind of fruit are you bearing?

In Be Like Jesus, Randy Frazee reveals how we must remain in community with Christ so that the fruit we bear tastes good to others and points people to Jesus.

The first five fruits, or virtues, that God plants in our hearts are more inward in nature:

• Love for God and others
• Inner contentment despite my circumstances
• Peace with God, with others, and with myself
• Self-control through God-control
• Hope in Jesus Christ

The last three virtues are more outward

• Patient endurance under pressure
• Faithfulness to God and others
• Gentleness in my dealings with others

Learn to abide in the presence of Jesus on a daily basis, through his Word, and to rely on the Spirit to show you how to grow sweeter fruit that will bring more people to Christ. In this way, you will become the person God wants you to be, a person who is more and more like Jesus every day.
